Job Summary

Teach Language courses at the beginning and/or intermediate college level within the Humanities, Language, & Culture Department.

Languages taught include: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Navajo, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Samoan, Tongan.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Following the course curriculum outline/syllabus, prepares and delivers lectures and other classroom activities.
2. Prepares and administers student assessments.
3. Keeps accurate classroom records.
4. Provides ADA accomodations as directed.
5. Responds to student inquiries about the course.
6. Follows SLCC policies and procedures.
7. Responds to student and college emails in a timely fashion (within 48 hours).
8. Visits with hiring supervisor at least once per semester.
9. Completes required department paperwork on time.
10. Conducts student course evaluations as directed.
11. Attends required trainings; participates where possible in other trainings.

Preferred Qualifications

M.A. or Ph.D. in the target language (Language or Linguistics), or related language degree.
3 years teaching experience at the community college level. Knowledge and experience in online and electronic instructional methodologies in the disciplines of language and/or area studies.

Minimum Qualifications

M.A. or Ph.D. in the target language (Language or Linguistics), or related area studies degree with language component.
Demonstrated oral and written language proficiency.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Good written and oral communication skills.
Computer (word processing, powerpoint) and internet (web, email) skills essential.

Special Instructions

As directed by SLCC Policy, Adjunct positions are semester by semester contract with no guarantee of continued employment.

Letters of recommendation and/or portfolios may be required by request.

Adjuncts are required to sign an adjunct contract and adhere to the contract specifications.
