Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing competency based training to students in a manner that prepares successful program graduates for continued employment growth through the sponsoring company’s apprenticeship program. Incumbent will participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the success of the program and the general well- being of the department and college.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Demonstrate thorough and accurate knowledge of the HVAC/R field.
2. Display an ability to interpret, evaluate and convey accurate thermodynamic principles.
3. Understand and use effective competency based teaching techniques, instructional materials and appropriate media to conduct and support classroom lecture, course work and laboratory projects.
4. Plan and develop meaningful student learning experiences that may be required beyond the scope of the program curriculum.
5. Develop a strong understanding of the current curriculum and resources available to teach the appropriate technology content for each year of the apprenticeship program.
6. Be confident in providing individualized HVAC/R instruction.
7. Mentor, encourage, counsel and guide students toward the completion of program requirements, ie; course assignments, career goals, responsible and safe work habits.
8. Manage the classroom in a manner that ensures a good learning environment for all students.
9. Respond appropriately to student needs and problems and provide assistance in solving them in accordance with technical and college procedures.
10. Ensure that appropriate safety practices are used at all times and that students are knowledgeable of safety techniques.
11. Maintain control of and safeguard inventories of equipment and supplies available to the program.
12. Demonstrate and support professional commitment to Division, School, and College mission and values.
13. Support and follow College policies and procedures.
14. Complete all required training.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued
Preferred Qualifications

1. Prior teaching experience.
2. Industry certifications preferred: NATE, ARI/GAMA ICE, RSES CM, Etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified applicant will have a Journeyman or equivalent substantial knowledge and experience, and a minimum of 6 years of industry experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Learn and use technology to enhance teaching essential skill sets to students.
2. Remain current with emerging technology and changes effecting the industry.
3. Understand and be proficient with computers and supporting hardware.
4. Understand and be confident in using current software pertinent to the HVAC/R program needs.
