Job Summary

A instructor is needed for BTEC 2040, Advanced Molecular Methods, for spring 2015. There are two sections, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-5:20 and 5:30-8:20pm on the SLCC Jordan campus. This course teaches advanced concepts used in genetic engineering and analysis of gene expression. These include principles of DNA sequencing, quantitative PCR, mutagenesis, and reverse transcription.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Follows the course curriculum outline, prepares and delivers lectures and other classroom activities.
2. Keeps accurate classroom records.
3. Coordinates Student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures.
4. Answer student questions and provide necessary feedback on student progress.
5. Supports department assessment initiatives.
6. Meets College and department deadlines and evaluates student work in a timely manner including submitting final grades on time.
7. Completes all required trainings.
8. Demonstrate and supports professional commitment to division, school, and college mission and values.
9. Follows SLCC policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

1. M.S./M.A. or Ph. D. degree in biotechnology or a related discipline.

2. Two (2) or more years teaching experience.

Minimum Qualifications

1. BS degree in biotechnology or related discipline.

2. One (1) or more years teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Must be able to teach in a contextualized format.

2. Solid understanding of mutagenesis, qPCR, DNA sequencing, and HPLC.

3. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

4. Strong interpersonal communication skills.

5. Knowledge and understanding of unique concerns of returning adult students.

6. Demonstrated skills and record of success in establishing good working relationships with students, staff, & faculty.

7. Able to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

8. Must be adaptable, flexible, and have the ability to multi-task.

9. Demonstrates proficiency in and passion for teaching.

As directed by SLCC Policy, Adjunct positions are semester by semester contract with no guarantee of continued employment.
