Job Summary

Under general supervision, teaches aviation Private Pilot flight lab courses in the Professional Pilot program to prepare students for an Associates or Applied Associates of Science degree and a career in aviation. Faculty member may be assigned to any SLCC location and teach in either day or evening programs.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Follows the course curriculum outline, prepares and delivers flight instruction and other pre and post flight activities.
2. Keeps accurate records.
3. Coordinates Student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures.
4. Answer student questions and provide necessary feedback on student progress.
5. Follows SLCC policies and procedures.
6. Supports department assessment initiatives.
7. Meets College and department deadlines and evaluates student work in a timely manner including submitting final grades on time.
8. Completes required training and attends department meetings.
9. Demonstrates and supports professional commitment to division, school, and college mission and values.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelors Degree preferred*

2. Three (3) years of related work in aviation required.

3. Teaching experience preferred.

4. Qualified to teach in Part 141 FAA Flight Training Program.

5. Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI) certificate or Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) required.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Must pass TSA clearance for GA badge and student training.

2. Licensure requirement to meet Private Pilot flight training under FAR Parts 61 and 141.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Knowledge and teaching ability for Private Pilot licensure.

2. Knowledge and teaching ability in Flight Training subjects:
Meterology
Aerodynamics
Aircraft Systems and Functions
Air Traffic Control Procedures and Systems
Aircraft Dispatch Applications and Regulations
2. Demonstrated knowledge of FAR Part 61 and Part 141 of FAA regulations.
3. The ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College. The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.

As directed by SLCC Policy, Adjunct positions are semester by semester contract with no guarantee of continued employment.
