Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Associate Dean, the faculty member will teach various Surgical Technology evening/day classes including such courses as Beginning Surgical Theory, Surgical Procedures, and Surgical Practicum.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Prepare and teach classes in the Surgical Technology program.
2. Participate in program activities to maintain accreditation standards.
3. Keep accurate classroom records.
4. Develop, distribute and adhere to well-organized and appropriately detailed course outlines and syllabus.
5. Participate in curriculum development, innovations in the delivery and design of Surgical Technology courses and emphases including textbook selection.
6. Meets college and departmental deadlines and evaluates student work promptly including submitting grades on time.
7. Demonstrate professional development and contributions to the Surgical Technology discipline.
8. Participate in the use of instructional technology including the use of computers and multi-media in lectures, laboratories, and distance learning environments.
9. Attend New Faculty Orientation sessions.
10. Completes all required training.
11. Coordinates student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures.
12. Demonstrate and supports a professional commitment to division, school, and college mission and values.
13. Demonstrated experience in knowledge of curriculum design and education philosophy that emphasizing student learning in the design, delivery, and evaluation of courses.
14. Demonstrated ability to cooperate in a team setting.
15. Follows SLCC policies and procedures.
16. The willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal development.
17. Technological literacy and innovation.
18. Accept other duties as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a closely related discipline. Teaching experience in a higher education institution (adjunct or full-time).
Teaching experience in a clinical or didactic setting.

Minimum Qualifications

National Board (NBSTSA) Certified Surgical Technologist.
Three or more years of operating room experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Clinical experience as a practicing surgical technologist. Documented expertise in areas of teaching responsibility. A breadth of knowledge of experience in the field of Surgical Technology. A depth of understanding of the Surgical Technology field through professional development and can contribute to the current knowledge of the discipline. Maintain credible academic degrees or certifications in the field as required by NBSTSA Certifying boards and ARCSTSA accreditation. Demonstrated strength in teaching community college courses either as an adjunct or full-time faculty. The understanding of various learning styles and ability to employ related teaching strategies, including distance learning, computers, and multimedia. Knowledge of the development, implementation, and evaluation of fieldwork education. Knowledge and experience in promoting quality education in laboratory and fieldwork experiences and ensuring student and consumer safety. Knowledge of the development of new courses and the upgrading of current courses and programs. Knowledge of instructional technology appropriately both in the classroom and as a tool for distance learning. Ability to maintain a collegiate attitude toward work, student and colleagues.
