Job Summary

Assist in the recruitment and enrollment of students eligible for the SLCC TRIO Student Support Services (STEM) Program. Data entry of intake application into the online Student Access system. Facilitate presentations to groups that include: students, teachers, parents, school counselors, and administrators. Available to tutor and mentor middle school, junior high school, high school students, TRIO STEM program participants.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Familiarity with college readiness resources. Civility and urbanity are essential attributes in customer service towards program participants, parents, teachers, counselors, administrators, and program personnel. Thus, excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.

Reliable transportation to visit partner schools. Valid driver’s license is required to drive to multiple schools and job sites.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures. Proper business English, including spelling, punctuation and grammar for reading, writing, and speaking skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Fluency in Spanish is helpful and useful.

Minimum Qualifications

-High School Diploma.
-SLCC student in good academic standing, currently enrolled, and work-study eligible.
-Valid driver’s license is required to drive to multiple schools and job sites.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

-Familiar with communities of Salt Lake City and West Valley City.
-Understands obstacles prospective low-income and first-generation college students experience.
-Familiar with the FAFSA Process.
-Maintain awareness of scholarship information.
-Strong interpersonal skills, ie., good listener, trustworthy of confidential student records and student information; flexible in adapting to diverse personalities and collaborative skills.
-Familiarity with pre-college programs.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.

Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Up to 20 hours per week work shift.

Multiple positions may be filled from this posting.
Work Study is awarded to SLCC students through the Federal College Work Study program, which requires establishing financial need through the FAFSA application from the Financial Aid Office. If you do not have work study awarded to you, you will not be eligible for work under work study positions.
