Job Summary

Under the direction of the Grant Specialist, interface with TANF grant participants in the computer lab setting providing technical support and assistance. This is a temporary three-year, part-time grant position and requires working at multiple SLCC campuses and off-campus computer lab locations. This position is the first point of contact for grant participants seeking technical assistance with basic computer training in Internet research, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Will communicate with customers via telephone and face to face and respond to questions regarding technical assistance and Internet research.

Will be expected to use Internet research skills and Microsoft Office Suite skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree
Knowledge of network technology
Microsoft Certifications

Minimum Qualifications

1-3 years full time paid experience in a computer-related or customer service-related position; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Must have a vehicle and valid driver’s license to get to multiple computer lab locations

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of Internet applications
Knowledge of printing
Knowledge of desktop environments
Ability to learn and follow College policies and procedures
Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
Ability to establish rapport with a diverse academic, race, age, socio-economic status
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic backgrounds

Ability to trouble-shoot basic hardware applications
Ability to organize workspace, keep lab space and equipment clean and orderly
Ability to maintain lab computers, ensure equipment is functional and ready to use

Excellent internet, MS Windows operating systems, Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills

Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Provide support and tutoring services to participants individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow-up with learning activities or the use of computer software or hardware in the computer lab
Assist participants in the use of technology to complete projects, including online research, document editing (formatting, spell check, etc.)
Be present, visible, and available to participants requiring technical assistance
Monitor activities and behavior of participants in the lab to ensure the physical and environmental safekeeping of students and lab equipment
Attend training workshops as requested by supervisor in order to learn the type of support participants require
Perform basic computer troubleshooting, including course specific software and printer maintenance and report issues to supervisor.
Maintain a clean, quiet work area
