Job Summary

Under general supervision, prepare and teach introductory and intermediate English Composition and other English courses as needed. Faculty member may be assigned to any SLCC location.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Follows the Englilsh course curriculum outline, prepares and delivers lectures and other classroom activities.

2. Keeps accurate classroom records.

3. Coordinates Student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures.

4. Answer student questions and provide necessary feedback on student progress.

5. Supports the English department assessment initiatives.

6. Meets College and department deadlines and evaluates student work in a timely manner including submitting final grades on time.

7. Completes all required trainings.

8. Demonstrates and supports professional commitment to division, school, and college mission and values.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued
Preferred Qualifications

One-year’s experience teaching compostition at a post-secondary institution.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree in English, Composition, Writing Theory, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Equivalent of three (3) years full-time, successful composition teaching experience at an accredited institution of higher education.

2. Expertise in current approaches to composition and English studies.

3. Demonstrated fluency in core pedagogies of writing instruction, including but not limited to: developing and supporting writing assignments; responding to student writing; facilitating the work of students in small groups, as well as in whole-class activities; and facilitating collaborative work.

4. Expertise and teaching experience in a variety of writing courses, including technical and professional writing.

5. Demonstrable proficiency with writing technologies, including but not limited to on-line or technology-enhanced course design and teaching, multi-media, hypertext, and distance education.

6. Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
