*This is a Work Study, part-time position, approximately 10-20 hours/week **Applicants must be eligible for federal Work Study Work Study is awarded to SLCC students through the Federal College Work Study program, which requires establishing financial need through the FAFSA application from the Financial Aid Office. If you do not have work study awarded to you, you will not be eligible for work under work study positions. Will be hiring 2 work study individuals who can work on alternate days and hours, by providing adequate coverage to the department, while working around their college demanding schedules. Monday-Friday Times: Between 7:30am to 4:30pm  Salt Lake Community College may complete a criminal background check on the finalist.

Job Summary

Under general supervision serve as receptionist for the Jordan Campus First-Year Experience Office; answer phones, take messages, assist health science students in navigating their first year of college. Provide assistance in interpreting and translating information for primarily Spanish-speaking and French/English speaking families and visitors to access services provided by first-year and health services.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

This job will offer students the opportunity to demonstrate and/or acquire basic knowledge and skills in office work and health science pre-requisites and requirements to facilitate access to health programs. Increase communication skills by learning and demonstrating oral, written and listening skills in assisting students and in understanding one another and the services provided by the First-Year Experience and Jordan Campus; Increase collaboration skills by working closely with the dental hygiene department, occupational therapy, mortuary science and medical coding. Attendance and punctuality will be monitored and is of high importance, employee will be given feedback as needed; Professionalism and attention to details are important (preference will be given to students in Health and Science programs).

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will go to candidates who are:

A. Bilingual in Spanish and/or French

B. Demonstrate strong public speaking skills

C. Professional in manner and appearance

D. Are involved or familiar with SLCC clubs and organizations, or Jordan Campus services

Minimum Qualifications

Must be approved for Work Study.

Must be a current SLCC student with a minimum 2.5 GPA who is maintaining at least 9 credits per semester

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
