Job Summary

Under general supervision, teach various adjunct Automotive Technology courses, either during the day or in the evening, which will lead students to acquire specific skills, and Certificate of Completion in Automotive Maintenance & Light Repair or Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Automotive Technician.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Effectively prepare and teach classes to facilitate student learning.
2. Assess student performance and maintain student records.
3. Develop, distribute, and adhere to current course outlines and/or syllabi.
4. Participate in curriculum development and/or course requirements.
5. Advise students on program and/or course requirements.
6. Demonstrate and support professional commitment to Division, School, and College mission and values.
7. Demonstrate and support professional commitment to the Automotive Technology profession.
8. Maintain currency in the theory and practice of Automotive Technology.
9. Support and follow College policies and procedures.
10. Coordinates student ADA accommodation requests following College policy and procedures.
11. Completes all required training.
12. Teach and enforce safe practices using automotive processes according to departmental policy.
13. Demonstrate automotive techniques and procedures consistent with industry and department practices.
14. Keep accurate classroom records.
15. Meets College and department deadlines and evaluates student work in a timely manner including submitting final grades on time.
16. Remains compliant with OSHA rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology or related field from an accredited College of University.
2. Two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience in Automotive, or related field.
3. Certifications related to specific classes being taught.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate of Applied (AAS) degree and six (6) full-time years of paid work experience
Bachelors of Science (BS) degree or four (4) full-time years of paid automotive work experience.
1. National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified
Proficiency with diagnostic tools, power tools and hand tools used by automotive technicians.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Ability to stand before a class of students and deliver required subject matter.
2. Demonstrated proficiency in automotive electrical and electronics, engines, brakes, steering and suspension, air conditioning, manual transmissions, automatic transmissions and engine performance.
3. Good reading and writing skills.
4. Excellent communication skills.
5. Dependable and punctual.
