Job Summary

Major Function:

Under minimal supervision, this position works in a variety of capacities as dictated by the volume of work and priorities.

Physical Archival duties include 1) processing, arranging, and describing the SLCC Physical Archives, 2) following procedures and best practices for minimal processing, 3) identify fragile materials and perform minor repairs and preservation measures in consultation with supervisor, 4) assist with identifying Archival objects for Digitization.

Digitization duties include 1) digitization of archival materials from the SLCC Archives using flatbed scanning and digital camera, including, but not limited to, publications, photographs, videos, slides, and documents, 2) processing digital-born resources for ingest into SLCC IR Digital Collections, 3) adhere to SLCC Archives & IR Digital Collections best practices.

Other duties include 1) assist with the creation of physical and digital exhibits and displays, 2) perform research to support exhibits, metadata generation, and other initiatives, 3) assist with outreach initiatives and events, 4) assist patrons with accessing resources, 5) be able to work in and contribute to a positive, fast paced, team environment.

Essential responsibilities and duties of this position are: 1) perform job functions with minimal supervision, 2) follow written and oral instructions effectively, 3) process digital files using Adobe Master Suite, 4) ability to be proactive, flexible, and collaborative as a team member in order to accomplish departmental, library, and institutional goals, 5) ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks and projects on time, 6) perform standard Circulation, Reference, Acquisitions, Processing, and Customer Service duties, 7) other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred – Higher Education Degree
Preferred – Minimum of one year of work experience in a digitization-related position
Preferred – One year of work experience in an Archives or Library Special Collections

Minimum Qualifications

High School Degree or equivalent
Ability to lift 50 pounds

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Job Qualifications – Knowledge and Skills:
-Knowledge of Digitization equipment (flatbed scanning and copy stand work with digital camera)
-Knowledge of advanced digitization techniques (utilizing Adobe Master Suite to re-touch archival scans, color correction, stitch still images into single file, edit and processing video) is preferred
-Ability to follow Archival Best Practices when digitizing fragile materials
-Excellent knowledge of Adobe Master Suite (specifically: Photoshop)
-Good written and oral communication skills
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
