Job Summary

Provide quality tutoring, primarily in mathematics and science, to TRIO participants while mentoring their development of effective student skills (i.e. note-taking, test preparation, time management, etc.). This may include assisting with class-related technology such as online homework and e-Portfolios.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Provide quality tutoring in mathematics and sciences.
Submit required paperwork such as logs and time sheets in a timely manner.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent.
Qualified tutors will need to have earned a B or better in the courses they wish to provide tutoring and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to provide content competent tutoring to assist students in reaching their stated academic goals; communicate effectively with and relate to a diverse student population; mentor effective student skills and positive attitude; work as a team with advisers and other tutors; assist in creating learning environments based on respect, understanding, and trust for those seeking learning support. Submit accurate and timely logs, payroll, and other documents as needed.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.

Work-study is awarded to SLCC students through the Federal College Work-Study program, which requires establishing financial need through the FAFSA application from the Financial Aid Office. If you do not have work-study awarded to you, you will not be eligible for work under work-study positions.
