Job Summary

Mentor new peer team members and returning Trio participants; assist Trio Students and Staff to ensure smooth operation of office and provide outreach and activities that promote the retention, graduation and transfer objectives of the Trio Program.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Mentor new peer team members and returning Trio participants; organize departmental service projects; coordinate, plan, and implement Trio outreach activities including classroom and club visits; follow up with workshop attendees; assist with smooth operation of office to greet visitors and students. Respond to email and social networking requests for information. Other duties will be assigned. Facilitate presentations to groups that include students, faculty, administrators and community members.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with diverse groups or populations; prior experience working in the federally funded Trio program;

Minimum Qualifications

Previous experience working in a TRIO program; 2.75 GPA; current Trio/Student Support Services participant in good standing; minimum of 30 earned credit hours

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to work with diverse groups; knowledge of campus services and resources; self motivated and able to approach and interact with students; energetic, culturally sensitive, dependable, and organized; and ability to work with a team in a busy environment. Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft and SLCC MyPage and E-Portfolios.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.

Number of hours worked depends on work study award.
Work-study is awarded to SLCC students through the Federal College Work-Study program, which requires establishing financial need through the FAFSA application from the Financial Aid Office. If you do not have work-study awarded to you, you will not be eligible for work under work-study positions.

Salt Lake Community College may complete a criminal background check on the finalist.
