Job Summary

The Technician will have knowledge of and experience in the professional preparation and installation of artwork and gallery/museum experience or knowledge of art curation, placement and maintenance.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Collection Management:
• Handle or organize entries and mailings and keep associated records
• Assist with set up and take-down duties related to all exhibitions, including appropriate display.
• Assist with appraisal of value of art submitted, as needed.
• Maintain a clean and orderly environment in all work areas, ensuring that tools, materials and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
• Assist with the coordination of professional documentation of each exhibition, when required.
• Ensure slides, digital images, video documentation, catalogues, etc. are added to the database and properly archived.
• Attend monthly art committee meetings.
• Develop label/plaque system and label all known artworks
• Oversee college art collection database (collection management system) and accessioning system.
• Catalogue and label all College artwork.
• Coordinate rotating exhibits for public spaces on the college’s campuses and sites as needed. Exhibits may come from College’s permanent collection, student artwork or community artists
• Facilitate reviews and approval of art committee policies & procedures. Review and contribute collection management standards and practices.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of art collection, display, and management standards
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of gallery exhibition/art practices.
• Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
• Ability to work with diverse groups including artists and general public.
• Ability to interact with internal and external constituents with tact and diplomacy.
• Keen interest in visual and digital arts.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor degree preferred
Gallery experience or knowledge of art curation, promotion and maintenance preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

•Associate degree and/or 2-years art collection management related experience.

• Excellent command of the English language (written and oral).
• Excellent organizational and computer skills.
•Knowledge of art display best practices

•Knowledge of proper art handling and maintenance
