Job Summary

The adjunct faculty will teach truck driving skills in an open entry/open exit competency-based classroom. Instruction includes preparing students for a Class A and/or Class B CDL license, including pre-trip inspections, backing skills, shifting skills, pulling singles and doubles trailers, log books, and other related skills.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Follows the course curriculum outline, prepares and delivers lectures and other classroom activities.
2. Prepare students for the Class A and/or Class B CDL License using classroom and lab activities.
3. Train students behind the wheel and over the road using a variety of trucks and transmissions
4. Keeps accurate classroom records.
5. Coordinates Student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures.
6. Answers questions about the course and assess student’s abilities and provide appropriate documentation and feedback.
7. Advise students on program requirements and progress through the program
8. Follows SLCC policies and procedures.
9. Supports department assessment initiatives.
10. Meets College and department deadlines and evaluates student work in a timely manner including submitting final grades on time.
11. Completes required training and attends department
12. Demonstrates and supports professional commitment to division, school, and college mission and values.
13. Support College and Skills Center policies and guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience with heavy duty construction equipment
2. Bilingual Spanish/English.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Three to five years experience driving trucks pulling singles and doubles, both long haul and locally.
2. Experience teaching adults in truck driving or related field.
3. Current and valid CDL Class A license for the State of Utah
4. Current DOT physical
5. Excellent driving record
6. Must participate in the SLCC random drug testing program.

As directed by SLCC Policy, Adjunct positions are semester by semester contract with no guarantee of continued employment.
