Job Summary

Performs simultaneous interpreting and transliterating for Deaf and hard of hearing students, staff, faculty, and visitors. Primarily interpret in classroom settings. Sets a high professional standard for other interpreters to follow.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Interprets/transliterates in American Sign Language or other communication modes as required for individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Interprets a regular schedule of classes and covers additional assignments that arise, including campus activities. Must be able to work well with others and work as a team interpreter. Schedules may require split shifts and travel between campuses.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued
Preferred Qualifications

National Interpreter Certification, RID CI/CT, NAD 4/5, and/or Utah Professional certification.

Completion of an Interpreter Training Program

Minimum Qualifications

State of Utah Novice certification or higher required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of and ability to apply the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct and standard practices for interpreting/transliterating in post secondary education. Skill in professional communication with faculty, staff, and students. Knowledge in math, English, and a wide range of college general education subjects. Knowledge and understanding of Deaf culture and Deaf history.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
