Job Summary

The Facilities Supervisor position leads a team of custodians to perform cleaning maintenance jobs at assigned various SLCC campus locations in efforts to keep all campus facilities clean, safe and orderly.
This important position contributes greatly to the overall visual appeal and environment at each campus and their buildings to its highest standards by building inspections and employee reviews. This position will assist the Maintenance Manager and/or the Assistant Maintenance Manager in personnel decisions, operational oversight, and other departmental needs. The supervisor will direct, participate and create the work for full-time and part-time staff by assigning work orders and p.m.’s daily to ensure that all facilities assigned are cleaned regularly and efficiently.
The Facilities Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that the college will always be a clean functioning environment for students, faculty and staff to work and learn in at all times.
The Facilities Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring supplies, inventory and equipment are properly stocked and ordered within an established budget. The Supervisor is responsible to train the employees the on efficient and effective use of custodial materials and equipment.
The Supervisor has a regular schedule but requires flexibility and must be available to work on call for snow removal and other building clean up emergencies, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
This position is considered an advanced custodian – supervisory level position but will also be expected to perform all custodial cleaning duties as needed.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

General supervision of building operations. Handling problems and emergency maintenance situations. Building maintenance which includes inspecting facilities and equipment for defects and repairs, establishing and maintaining preventative maintenance programs. Apply pesticide when necessary. Responsible for obtaining custodial supplies that require a forklift operation.
Supervisory skills and team management skills including the ability to effectively assist in the hiring/termination process, train incoming staff on College policy, general Custodial procedures, and Custodial duties (semi-skilled manual labor). Demonstrate effective teamwork with all staff. Prepare written disciplinary actions, memos and employee growth, planning and support documents.
Ensure supplies/inventory are properly stocked and ordered within an established budget. Train other staff on efficient and effective use of materials. Ordering supplies when needed, keep inventory, knowledge of all vendors for supplies and college rules for ordering.
Performing minor custodial duties such as maintaining the inside and outside of all facilities including snow removal and applying ice melt.
Open, complete, and close out work orders in the Sprocket system, enter time worked, and order materials.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree.
Three (3) to five (5) years direct, paid, full-time work experience in facilities maintenance including supervisory experience.
Part time related work experience may be substituted for full time experience on a pro-rated basis.
Trade off of work experience and education on a 1 year to 1 year basis.
Must have a valid UT Driver License or the ability to obtain one.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

-Knowledge of and ability to use and train on all required cleaning and maintenance machines including complex machines (e.g. buffers, vacuums, carpet cleaners, etc.).
-Appropriately calculate application rate for pesticide as needed to control unwanted pests such as insects, arachnids, and rodents found inside the buildings.
-Snow removal skills and abilities, involving snow shovels, snow blowers, plows and ice melt solutions.
-Computer and data entry skills. Basic MS Office knowledge. Ability to navigate the Internet. Knowledge of Sprocket work order system and ability to enter time worked, opening and closing work orders, completing work orders, as well as ordering materials as needed. Ensure that subordinates complete their assigned tasks on time and according to best practice.
-Adept in use of MS Office 2010 or later, particularly Excel, Word and ideally Access and work order database.
-Ability to complete all College required training courses.
-Ability to complete low speed vehicle training.
-Ability to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis to move moderately heavy equipment.
-Ability to get on and off of and work from a ladder.
-Ability to perform equipment maintenance tasks.
-Receive and follow verbal/written instructions.
-Ability to read and understand SDS labeling requirements.
-Knowledge of: maintenance of building and grounds operation, general record upkeep, cleaning and chemicals and solvents, scheduling and training procedure.
-Ability to bend and kneel for long periods of time
-Ability to operate all types of custodial equipment for two hours at a time without disruption.
