If you do not have work study awarded to you, you will not be eligible for work under work study positions.

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Learning Center Director and site Coordinator, the Learning Center Tutor will primarily be responsible for providing quality tutoring in the area of their expertise.

These areas include:
Mathematics (which may include statistics)
Chemistry
Biology
Physics
CSIS Java
Accounting

Other major functions include the accumulation and reporting of accurate information about students, the classes being tutored, and the time spent tutoring.

The Tutor may also be asked to assist students with computers and class-related technology including MyMathLab and ePortfolio.

This is a pooled position. The Department will review applications when positions become available.

Openings may be available at various campus locations.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Tutor students in the area of expertise as qualified.

Accumulate and report accurate information on time sheets.

Preferred Qualifications

To be considered as qualified to tutor any subject and class, the tutor must have passed the classes they intend to tutor with a B or better. To tutor Mathematics, it is required that the tutor have taken Math 1210 (Calculus) or above and passed it with a B or better.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Education Required

a. Minimum 2.75 GPA. b. Successful completion of Math 1210 (Calculus) or higher level Math courses with a B or better for Math tutors. c. Successful completion of classes in other subject areas to be tutored with a B or better. d. Letter of Reference/Referral from course instructor who can speak to applicant’s tutoring ability or subject knowledge. d. Preferred: Some experience in tutoring adults.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
