Job Summary

The Adjunct will teach math, reading and/or keyboarding and ten-key to adults enrolled in the College Academic Readiness course in an open-entry/open-exit competency based program. Instruction focuses on skills to prepare students for vocational programs in the School of Applied Technology.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Teach the College Academic Readiness Course as assigned. Follow the course curriculum outline and deliver personalized content for individual students.
2. Facilitate, monitor and advise students on requirements needed to progress to meet their academic goals and/or enter vocational training programs.
3. Keep accurate and detailed classroom records.
4. Assess students’ abilities and provide appropriate documentation and feedback of student performance as required.
5. Coordinate student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued

6. Follow SLCC policies and procedures.
7. Support department assessment initiatives.
8. Meet college and department deadlines and evaluate student work in a timely manner including submitting final grades on time and registering students.
9. Complete required training and attend department meetings.
10. Demonstrate and support professional commitment to division, school, and college mission and values.
11. Follow SLCC and School of Applied Technology policies and guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master’s Degree preferred
2. Training and experience working with ESL students
3. Experience in open-entry/open exit individualized adult program.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in content area or related field required.
2. Experience teaching math and English ( to adults)
3. Experience teaching a diverse population of adults.
4. Experience with curriculum development.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Attention to details, excellent documentation and maintenance of individualized records of student performance.
Experience in open- entry/open exit individualized adult programs preferred.
Experience with computer assisted adult basic skills instruction preferred.
Teaching from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work without close supervision in a team with diverse membership and within a prescribed curriculum and departmental procedures while maintaining patience.
