Job Summary

Tutoring students in JAVA programming.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

The tutor should never do the student’s homework nor give line by line instructions, for that creates dependency. The ideal candidate would answer specific questions, work on examples together, and provide students with a sequence of videos, readings, exercises, etc. so that students can build the skills needed to succeed.

This position requires 20-29 hours a week. Schedule is negotiable.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference is given to students who have completed both CSIS-1410 and CSIS-2420 with an A or A-.
Previous tutoring experience is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

The candidate needs to have a good knowledge of the Java topics covered in CSIS-1410 and 2420. Must also be able to write clear, well-structured code.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The candidate needs to be a good communicator; willing to listen to other student’s programming problems, capable of identifying the cause of their programming issues, and explaining the identified topic.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
