Job Summary

In this position, an undergraduate student from the University of Utah (UofU) will help Professor Chris Johnson at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) mentor geology majors at SLCC on conducting research and mentoring others. The UofU student will be an upper division undergraduate student majoring geology or a related field. This student will assist Professor Johnson with managing the National Science Foundation grant that is supporting this work, mentor students on their research projects, assist with transportation of students to meetings at the UofU and Weber State. Students agree to participate in the National Science Foundation study that is funding this project.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience undergraduate research experience.
• Research experience at Salt Lake Community College is a plus.
• Attended Salt Lake Community College.
• Demonstrated motivation to mentor others.

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as an upper division undergraduate student in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Utah
• Declared a major geoscience (geology, environmental geology, or geophysics) or the earth science education program.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Previous undergraduate research experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience mentoring or tutoring others.

The student will work for 15-hours per week.
