Job Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Program & Course Development, oversee the successful design, development and implementation of the online and blended course development and delivery for the Division of Workforce Training & Continuing Education. With limited supervision, the Instructional Designer is responsible for designing effective, interactive, high quality instruction for technology-enabled learning environments.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Primary work assignment is at the SLCC Miller Campus. Design effective, quality instruction for technology-enabled learning environments for delivery on the institution’s platform(s). Create appropriate assets and evaluation tools from content identified by subject matter experts. Produce course design documents that are based on sound instructional design principles and communicate the vision of the course to stakeholders. Work closely with faculty, staff, administrators, industry and community members to design and develop offerings consistent with the Division’s goals and as assigned by the Assistant Director, Program & Course Development. Ensures the instructional design quality of the courses developed. Recommend innovative approaches and strategies to solve instructional problems as well as achieve course enhancements. Comply with institution’s platform requirements. Other Duties as Assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Instructional Design.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education, online instruction, English, visual design, or related field required.
Minimum three years related full time work experience required.
Online curriculum development experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Intermediate to advanced experience using Adobe CC, HTML, XML, and JavaScript.
Knowledge of instructional design
Knowledge of adult learning theory
Ability to provide engaging design recommendations & implement
Ability to technically write
Ability to learn and follow College policies and procedures
Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
Ability to conduct on-line research
Ability to work in a team setting
Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage multiple aspects of a large project
Ability to innovate and problem solve
Computer skills proficient to use programs such as MS Office, Captivate, Canvas, and Articulate 360
Ability to design creative, instructionally sound training solutions within budget and timeline constraints
Ability to communicate professionally with subject matter experts and project team
Knowledge and ability to use web-based authoring tools
Good communication, sound judgment and organizational skills
PC & Mac proficient

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
