Specifically, the Biology Department is seeking a person who can provide an inclusive, engaging and rigorous educational lab experience to our human anatomy students. The successful candidate will join a vital and innovative department as its members are reflective practitioners and knowledgeable teachers in their respective fields. Such faculty members actively serve students in obtaining the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in their careers.

Under general supervision will primarily prepare and teach mathematics from Intermediate Algebra through Differential Equations and Linear Algebra. Faculty member may be assigned to any SLCC location and may be assigned an alternative work schedule.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Effectively facilitate the learning of SLCC students by use appropriate high impact practices and teaching techniques including delivering lectures, leading discussions and facilitating student projects.

Prepare course materials; integrate technology into mathematics courses; design assessments to improve course quality.

Assess and maintain student performance records.

Develop, revise, distribute and adhere to current course outlines, instructional materials and/or syllabi.

Attend regularly scheduled meetings and workshops.

Advise students on program and/or course requirements.

Demonstrate and support professional commitment to Department, School and College mission and values. Maintain a supportive attitude toward work, students, colleagues and administration.

Adhere to college policy as it pertains to maintaining regularly scheduled office/consultation hours.

Pursue professional development activities.

Serve on Department, Division and/or College committees as needed to assist in policy development, curriculum development, procedures or other matters that benefit the Department, Division or College.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued

Accept other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master’s degree in Mathematics with some formal mathematics education coursework.

2. Three or more years working in a tenure-track position at a community college.

3. Experience with assessment and curricular design.

4. Experience with online teaching pedagogy.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master’s degree (or verification of completion of degree requirements by the time of employment) in mathematics or closely related field.
2. Master’s degree in Mathematics Education with a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from an accredited college or university required.

3. At least three years teaching experience at an institution of higher education (part-time experience can be applied.).

4. At least 18 semester credit hours of successful completion of mathematics course work at the senior undergraduate or first year graduate level.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge and experience in pedagogy differences for teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online deliveries.

Work with students on level-appropriate research activities in mathematics.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College. The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Finally, a strong mathematical background and/or a depth of understanding of the undergraduate mathematics curriculum is needed.
