Job Summary

Assist the head soccer coach with all aspects of a comprehensive, highly competitive college soccer program. Assist with organization and management as it relates to scheduling, scouting, recruiting, game prep, travel arrangements, and monitoring student athletes (SA)

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Under the direction of the head soccer coach, assist in practice organization, scheduling, scouting, team supervision, on-field coaching, team/recruits, travel arrangements; consultation, monitoring of student-athletes, be responsible for player development and individual work sessions during practice. Assist in recruiting of new SA within the philosophies and guidelines of NJCAA, SLCC and Athletic Department. Coordinate and assist in developing/administering successful soccer camps at SLCC. Interpret eligibility requirements (NJCAA, NCAA, and NAIA) as they relate to registration and academic completion requirements.
Under immediate supervision, performs standard tasks using established methods, principles, concepts and procedures related to professional and managerial issues specific to and assistant coach.
Represents SLCC in a professional, ethical manner at all times, Administer and comply with the policies and procedures of Region 18, NJCAA, SLCC, and Athletic Department as it relates to the soccer athletic programs. Facilitate semester academic reports to include eligibility verification and individual academic acknowledgement. Other duties as assigned.

1-4 years coaching experience at a college/educational setting
Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum Qualifications

1-2 years coaching experience at a college/educational setting
Certified professional level experience considered

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knows fundamental concepts, practices skills and procedures of assisting in a comprehensive, highly competitive college athletic program. Needs assistance with administrative, managerial concepts and practices of an assistant coach on a college level.
Knowledge of soccer rules, skills, techniques and strategies at the intercollegiate level; athletic training techniques; OSHA and exposure control procedures preferred; NJCAA/Region 18 policies and procedures.
SLCC admission, registration and completion (graduation) requirements. Knowledge of NJCAA, NCAA and NAIA eligibility. Computers and Banner to aid in registration and maintenance of accurate student-athlete academic records and computer “online program”. Academic advising skills and procedures. Leadership skills and techniques.
Ability to:
Analyze, breakdown and develop strategies of soccer play and skill development; assess through a scouting process opponents skills, strengths, weaknesses and strategies; teach advanced soccer skills and strategies to intercollegiate student-athletes; be creative with a degree objective; lead and administrate by using interpersonal skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
