Job Summary

Report directly to Prison Education Program Manager. Will be working primarily in the Draper Prison handling various tasks related to SLCC’s Prison Education Program and will be cross-trained by Department of Corrections staff to develop familiarity with clearances, security procedures, and other regulations. Will also occasionally be called to the Taylorsville/Redwood SLCC campus to assist with pressing tasks (partial mileage reimbursement available). Hours are flexible according to need, will vary between 5 and 20 hours per week.

The successful candidate will have a positive attitude with a focus on providing great customer service, meeting deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Tasks include (but are not limited to):

• Assist with proctoring and grading the Accuplacer exam in Draper.
• Work with prison programming staff to ensure that test sign-up sheets are distributed to prison units, collected, cleared, and that inmates are informed that they are cleared to take the exam.
• Work with prison programming staff to make sure that inmates within the Oquirrh and Timpanogos units (and other units as they are made available) are kept informed of developments within our program (print and distribute prison newsletters to classrooms and units, etc.).
• Work with prison programming staff to ensure that all classrooms are properly reserved, inmates are cleared to have access to textbooks or other classroom materials, and that all logistical issues concerning classrooms are addressed.
• Ensure that prison staff have up-to-date information on the dates, times, and rosters of all prison ed classes, including faculty contact information.
• Keep all faculty informed of any lockdowns or other restrictions with their classes ahead of time, to keep them from driving to Draper only to be informed that their class has been cancelled.
• Report to the budget center manager to order, process, and store supplies for the prison ed program.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience working in Corrections.
2. Familiar with Salt Lake Community College policy and procedures, including adjunct contracts, curriculum procedures, and Banner.
3. Experience managing budgets and tracking expenses.
4. Experience working with adjunct instructors.
5. Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
6. Prior experience as an administrative assistant in an education setting.

Minimum Qualifications

1.Two years of post high school education (a minimum of 60 credit hours).
2. Two years of related experience.

Additional related work experience may be substituted with one year full-time work experience equal to one year of the required education and vice versa.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Keyboarding skills required. Office methods, techniques, practices and procedures; Interpersonal problem solving and public relations skill. Good communications/human relations/customer service skills. Knowledge of general office procedures and office equipment. Familiar with college policy and procedures.

Able to handle work of a confidential nature. Ability to use computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, database systems, Adobe Creative Suite, etc). Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Superior organizational skills, the ability to handle confidential information, excellent oral and written communication skills, above average computer skills and a willingness to learn new skills. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
