Job Summary

The Electronics Engineering Courses at SLCC maintains several sophisticated labs and shops used for “hands-on” teaching of the community college students. These facilities include:
1. Electronics Lab
2. Industrial Controls/Mechatronics Lab
3. Radio Frequency Shop
4. 3D Printing Shop
5. Mechatronics/Student Work Area

Under the direction of the lead faculty member in each area, the candidate will help maintain these facilities, coordinate lab schedules, supervise students who will be using the labs, maintain equipment, develop and implement new lab experiments.

The Lab Assistant will anticipate the need for necessary supplies and order them in a timely fashion. The Lab Assistant will also be required to maintain an inventory of these supplies.

During the first year, the Electronics Engineering labs will be moved to the new facility. The Lab Assistant will coordinate, supervise and facilitate the planning of that move.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Under the direction of the lead faculty member the candidate will help maintain the Electronics Lab: coordinate lab schedules, supervise students who will be using the lab, maintain equipment and conduct minor repairs, develop and implement new lab experiments.
Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment needed for completion of lab courses.

Under the direction of the lead faculty member the candidate will help maintain the Industrial Controls/Mechatronics Lab: coordinate lab schedules, supervise students who will be using the lab, maintain equipment and conduct minor repairs, develop and implement new lab experiments.

The Lab Aide will anticipate the need for necessary supplies and order them in a timely fashion.
Under the direction of the lead faculty member the candidate will help maintain the Radio Frequency Shop: coordinate lab schedules, supervise students who will be using the lab, maintain equipment and conduct minor repairs, develop and implement new lab experiments.
Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment needed for completion of lab courses.
The Lab Aide will anticipate the need for necessary supplies and order them in a timely fashion.
Under the direction of the lead faculty member the candidate will help maintain the 3D Printing Shop: coordinate lab schedules, supervise students who will be using the lab, maintain equipment and conduct minor repairs, develop and implement new lab experiments.
Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment needed for completion of lab courses.
The Lab Aide will anticipate the need for necessary supplies and order them in a timely fashion.
Under the direction of the lead faculty member the candidate will help teach the students the proper and safe operation of the tools in the shop. The candidate will supervise the operation of the shop and coordinate shop schedules, supervise students who will be using the shop, maintain equipment and conduct minor repairs, develop and implement new shop procedures.
Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment needed for completion of lab courses.
The Lab Aide will anticipate the need for necessary supplies and order them in a timely fashion.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued
Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Arduino IDE, programming and hardware interfacing (at the EET2150 level).
Knowledge of semi-conductors and interface methods (at the EET2110 level).
Advanced hobby level projects and interests.
Good people skills.
Ability to maintain lab equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Current SLCC student enrolled in engineering classes.

One year post-secondary education (equivalent of 30 completed credits) Electronics Engineering Technology or related field.

0-2 years experience in a service industry.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Friendly and helpful attitude toward students and faculty.
Willingness to be engaged in new tasks that may be unfamiliar.
Ability to prepare, maintain lab and demonstration equipment and repair or replace broken equipment.

Ability and knowledge of purchasing procedures for sophisticated equipment.

Ability to schedule lab classes and support Engineering Technology instructors.

Ability and willingness to support the faculty in the execution of the mission of the Engineering Technology Department.

Knowledge and ability to provide assistance and consultation to students and student lab interns within the guidelines of SLCC policy and procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
