Job Summary

The Thayne Center for Service & Learning provides a supportive and inclusive office for students to explore community involvement, leadership, and volunteerism. By providing opportunities in conjunction with local nonprofits we cultivate an environment to test our student’s interests and area of study while assisting them to realize they have the knowledge and skills to affect positive change in our community.

This position includes operating the SLCC Food Pantry, arranging volunteer schedules, coordinating Utah Food Bank deliveries, and general management of the pantry. This position will be based at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

- Must be awarded Federal Work Study.

- Pantry operations: opening and closing the pantry, helping clients ‘shop’ for food, managing pantry database, stocking shelves, and other related activities.

- Talk with students, faculty, and staff about Thayne Center programs and volunteer opportunities, as well as resources in the community.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued

- Create Word, Excel documents as needed

- Regularly check and respond to email

- Effectively communicate and maintain a regular schedule, including time for meetings with the Director of the Thayne Center

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working in a food pantry or on food insecurity initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

- Must have an SLCC Federal work-study award through SLCC’s Financial Aid office.

- Must work at least 4 hours and no more than 20 a week during the semester

- Must be enrolled in 6 credit hours per semester

- Must be comfortable talking with students, staff, and faculty.

- Must be able to earn award at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus.

- Must have basic computer skills.

- Attend all related Thayne Center orientations and trainings.

- Excellent oral communication.

- High level of customer service.

-High attention to detail.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Be able to learn about and promote the details of the Thayne Center programs and events

- Familiarity with nonprofits

- Phone etiquette

- Interpersonal skills

- Must be experienced with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel

- Ability to learn filing and organizational skills, Microsoft PowerPoint, Slack

- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

- Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
