Job Summary

Responsible for designing and implementing the overall Network Engineering framework including routers/switches, firewalls; maintaining efficient and trouble free operation of WAN/LAN/WLAN data communications; and maintaining up-to-date documentation of Network design, operation and procedure manuals. Supervises the efforts of Network Team’s workload and plans and manages the operating budget. Resolves hardware and software problems. Acts as a resource to other staff or clients on new network technologies, and industry trends.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Installation, configuration and maintenance of organization’s local and wide area network systems and procedures, including switches, routers, firewalls, security, etc. Provides configuration, implementation and problem analysis support for protocols (IP), Cisco router configuration, LAN infrastructure wiring, Cisco switches and communication facilities (GeoMax, MPLS). Upgrades, installs, tests and evaluates hardware and software components as required. Installs patches and resolves hardware/software related problems. Participates in after-hours, on-call support rotation.
Provides leadership in proactive network management support / problem analysis for the Enterprise WAN/LAN/WLAN.
Provide users with system technical support. Responds to needs and questions of users concerning their access of network resources. Including the assistance in the translation of customer needs into business solutions. Coordination with other departments to understand and meet their requirements. Including budgetary requirements for equipment replacement or additions as needed. Assists in development of specifications for new facilities and coordinates purchase and installation of new equipment and circuits through authorized vendors. Assists in developing implementation plans to upgrade voice/data communications systems.
Directs the work of Network Team and assists in giving input in employee annual reviews.
Maintain current skill set through professional initiative, on the job opportunity and available formal training.

Preferred Qualifications

Supervisory experience
Experience in a Higher Education environment.
Cisco certifications CCNA, CCNP, CCIE
Linux/Unix experience.
Experience in VoIP design, implementation and support.
Working knowledge or experience with MS Project.
Windows, Mac operating systems

Minimum Qualifications

Associates Degree in related field and 3 years related experience (experience or combination of education and experience totaling 6 years)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to troubleshoot and configure routers, switches and related protocols such as EIGRP, BGP, STP and experience with troubleshooting tools like network analyzers and sniffers.

Experience with wireless networking technologies, load balancing, VPN, NAC and encryption.

Experience managing, troubleshooting and creating VLANs, ACLs, VPC, Ether Channel and QoS settings in a LAN/WAN environment.

Experience managing an enterprise LAN/WAN networking environment

Experience with Data Center technologies and Fabric Extenders (FEX)

Good communications (written and oral) and documentation skills.

Supervisory experience.

Budgeting experience.

Very end user oriented.

Must be a team-oriented person and have the ability to work closely with team members.

Working knowledge of Windows and Mac desktop operating systems.

Good understanding of TCP/IP and Web technologies.

Excellent troubleshooting skills

Experience with performance tuning, capacity planning, systems management & networking on multiple computing and networking platforms.

Specific understanding of industry trends, standard concepts, practices, and procedures.

Must have strong work ethic ready to work extremely hard in implementing relevant technologies.

Must have good organizational skills and the ability to work with staff/faculty at all skill/management levels.

Must be able to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Must be able to perform a variety of tasks.

A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Must be conversant at all management/staffing levels on technology topics

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
