Job Summary

Cleans and maintains Salt Lake Community College facilities to ensure they are acceptable and orderly for all events, meetings, and classes. This is considered a senior custodial position and may be responsible for mentoring and coaching Custodian 1’s and 2’s. Work is expected to be done under limited supervision. Position will have responsibility to assist Supervisor with ensuring supplies are stocked and that equipment is in proper working condition. Position will also be responsible to report supplies / equipment shortages to supervisor. May assist Supervisor with other duties as needed.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Responsible for cleaning entryways, hallways, classrooms, bathrooms, locker rooms, offices, and indoor/outdoor common areas.
Cleaning & maintaining floors includes shampooing carpets, vacuuming, washing, mopping, stripping hardwood finish and buffing, applying hardwood floor sealer and finishes, etc..
Clean and disinfect inside & outside urinals/toilets, counter tops, sinks, lockers, showers, and replenish restroom supplies.
Emptying and removing trash from garbage cans inside and outside and disposing as directed.
Dust and clean windows (inside and outside), blinds, vents, furniture, and mirrors.
Clean in areas above the head and underneath furniture/fixtures.
Ensure that all lights are turned off and doors are secured after completing cleaning duties.
Responsible for completing assigned duties with or without directions.
Follow and learn Team Cleaning process for daily duties.
Assist in setting up furniture and equipment for special events as scheduled by the college.
Responsible for snow removal and application of ice melt during the winter season.
Clean and maintain custodial equipment used.
Report any, problems, damage or building repairs needed to management immediately.
Complete and close out work orders on the computer using the Sprocket system, enter time worked, Complete (daily report)
Request needed custodial supplies and restock supply closet.
Mentor and coach other Custodian 1’s and 2’s.
Ensure equipment is functioning properly.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Three (3) to five (5) years of direct, full-time, paid work experience.
Or, part-time direct work experience may be substituted for full time work experience on a pro-rated basis.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
High attention to detail and follow through.
Receive and follow verbal/written instructions and communicate effectively.
Demonstrate effective team work with all staff.
Ability to follow job cards completely and efficiently.
Computer and data entry skills.
Knowledge of MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets), cleaning products and their methods of use.
Ability to safely use all required cleaning / maintenance machines including complex machinery
Time management skills
Knowledge of OSHA regulations pertaining to facilities management
Knowledge of advanced cleaning techniques (including hardwood floor care, shampooing carpets, etc.)
Necessary to have skills and abilities in all aspects of cleaning and maintenance of facilities
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
