Job Summary

Work in the Academic Advising Office as the initial contact for all guests to Advising. Perform receptionist and basic secretarial duties in a positive, cheerful, and enthusiastic manner. Assist in performing routine clerical functions.

Position is located at the Jordan campus.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Welcome all students in the Academic Advising Office in a cheerful and enthusiastic manner. Refer students to other departments, as needed. Provide general information utilizing the A-Z index on SLCC.edu. Keep track of Advisor daily availability and provide information to students regarding walk in and appointment times. Organize and maintain reception area and update bulletin boards with current information. Clerical functions that include word processing, entering spreadsheet data, distributing mail, filing documents and updating information. Other duties as assigned.

Experience with higher education.

Minimum Qualifications

One year post high school education. Additional related work experience may be substituted for education requirements beyond secondary education. (One year full-time work experience equal to one year of required education).
One year of work experience in related services. (Additional related education/training may be substituted for work experience. One year education/training equal to one year of the required work experience.)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

General office procedures. College application and registration procedures. College catalog, A-Z index, and searchable class schedule use. Knowledge of Student Services Departments and services.
Ability to:
Organize and prioritize multiple tasks. Follow written and oral instructions accurately. Communicate effectively with a diverse staff and student body both over the phone and in-person. Perform tasks under pressure. Utilize the college computer system. Maintain a high level of professional behavior, flexibility, and dependability.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
