The successful candidate will provide classroom and lab instruction in all aspects of the SAT Manual Machinist program while working with students in an open-entry, open-exit competency-based classroom and lab. SLCC Faculty are required to collaborate with other departments sharing the machine lab and work with the internal departments to recruit students and market the program.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Provide classroom and lab instruction for Manual and CNC Machinist courses in a competency-based open-entry environment. Assess and maintain records of student performance and submit student records and documentation on time.

Advise students on the program requirements and their progress through the program. Provide an industry viewpoint to students and the training program so that students will be prepared to enter the work force.

Engage in professional development activities to remain current and improve knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to the machinist and teaching professions.

Work cooperatively with others to purchase required materials and equipment and manage and maintain the shared classroom space and lab equipment.

Work with marketing department in outreach efforts to recruit students and advertise the program.

Attend regularly scheduled meetings and participate in committee assignments.

Follow all established SLCC, School of Applied Technology and Technical Specialties policies and procedures.

Make and maintain industry contacts and work with the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) to assess needs of industry. Collaborate with PAC members and other instructors to update and revise curriculum to meet industry needs.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Current professional industry experience.
2. Knowledge of SLCC reporting system and registration process.
3. Prior professional work experience, preferably in higher education, working with disadvantaged and underserved populations.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Associates degree and 7 year’s full time work experience in the machining industry.
2.Five years teaching experience in Competency Based Education (Full time or Adjunct).
3. Five years experience working with an open- term schedule in a Competency Based Education (CBE) environment.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College. The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
