Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapy Program (RESP) at SLCC offers a 2-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree enabling the graduate to work in settings in the health care arena. Adjunct faculty will provide content lectures and clinical teaching in classrooms and labs as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Prepare and teach in various respiratory therapy classes, courses, clinics, and assist full-time faculty in assessments while striving for excellence.
2. Teach to all student learning objectives as listed by the program in existing syllabi from the course curriculum outline (CCO).
3. Utilize program generated course syllabi and prepare calendars, outlines, daily lesson plans, associated materials, and Canvas updates for courses assigned.
5. Provide suggestions for upgrading existing classes, courses, and curriculum to the program coordinator.
6. Be present and on time for all scheduled teaching assignments.
7. Report absences to both the program coordinator and associate dean in a timely nature.
9. Attend regularly scheduled program, division, school, and college meetings as invited.
10. Participate in workshops and committee assignments as assigned and approved.
11. Maintain student attendance and grades in Canvas.
12. Meet college and department deadlines and evaluate student work in a timely manner (1-2 days or at a minimum by the next scheduled class) including submitting final grades on time.
13. Request all course or class needs such as equipment and supplies to the program coordinator.
14. Teach with active learning and technology in the classroom.
15. Participate in maintaining the program’s accreditation status, adhering to national accreditation standards.
16. Teach concurrently enrolled students as assigned.
17. Complete all mandatory trainings before or by the due date.
18. Accept other duties as assigned.

2. Be technologically literate, knowledgeable, and innovative in the use of a variety of modern teaching technologies including the use of computers and multi-media in lectures, laboratories, and distance learning environments.
3. Provide leadership and professional contributions to the program, division, school, and college.
4. Participate in professional or occupational development as required by the profession’s accreditation standards for teaching.
5. Maintain depth of understanding in the chosen field and contribute to current knowledge of the discipline.
6. Maintain a positive attitude toward work, students, colleagues and administration.
7. Coordinate student ADA accommodation requests following college policy.
8. Answer student questions and provide necessary feedback on student progress.
9. Follow SLCC policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master’s degree or higher.
2. A minimum of four (4) years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) which includes a minimum of two (2) years of successful, paid, full-time clinical experience and a minimum of two (2) years teaching in an accredited respiratory care program.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Respiratory Care Practitioner degree, or equivalent, from an accredited institution of higher education.
3. Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the state of Utah.
4. Earned title of a Registered Respiratory Therapist from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
5. Two (2) years of recent, successful, paid, full-time clinical experience in health care settings as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Depth of understanding in the respiratory care field and can contribute to the current knowledge of the discipline.
2. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
3. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.

Special Instructions

As directed by SLCC Policy, adjunct faculty positions are a semester-by-semester contract with no guarantee of continued employment.
This is a pooled position and the department will review applications when positions become available.
