Job Summary

Maintain and repair all equipment and machinery in the grounds shop to operate in excellent working order. Operate street sweeper and hook truck. Providing additional support to grounds crew as needed.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Operate and troubleshoot and repair all types of grounds maintenance equipment to include ten-wheel dump truck, backhoe, forklift, snow removal vehicles, gas and arc welding equipment, lawn movers, small engines and tractors.
Maintain accurate maintenance records on each piece of equipment in the system.
Operate computerized preventive maintenance system.
Operate Street-sweeper and Hook Truck.
Snow removal and/or equipment related failure.
Assist in other grounds crew operations
Perform Routine Maintenance on all grounds equipment.
Metal Fabrication.
Other duties as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued
Preferred Qualifications

Certificate or Associate Degree in Small Engine Repair or Auto Mechanics preferred.
State of Utah Certified Pesticide Applicators license. Class B CDL or higher

Minimum Qualifications

2 years post High School education equaling 60 credits

Two (2) to four (4) years of direct, full-time, paid work experience as a mechanic turning wrenches on mechanical equipment with journeyman level experience.

Trade off 1:1 in experience/education requirement.

Valid CDL Class B license and compliance with driving policies at SLCC Within 6 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Working knowledge of all types of lawn care equipment and snow removal equipment with emphasis on the maintenance of such.

Have a working knowledge of the tools that pertain to the maintenance of all equipment involved with all aspects of grounds operations.

Gas and arc welding experience.

Skill to operate a forklift.

Machining experience preferred.

Knowledge of hand tools including measuring instruments.

Computer literate (i.e. Internet, work processing, spreadsheets).

Physically able to lift heavy objects.

Personality to interact with others regarding completion of work and availability of equipment.

Receive and follow instructions.

Command of English and writing skills.

Knowledge of small engine repair.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
