Job Summary

The faculty member will provide classroom and lab instruction in all aspects of the SAT Diesel Technician program while working with students in an open-entry, open-exit competency-based classroom and lab. The instructor will be required to collaborate with other departments sharing the lab space and work with the Marketing department to recruit students and market the program. This position depends on student enrollment levels.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Provide classroom and lab instruction for Heavy Duty Diesel program courses in a competency-based open-entry environment.

Assess and maintain records of student performance and submit student records and documentation on time.

Advise students on the program requirements and their progress through the program.

Provide an industry viewpoint to students and the training program so that students will be prepared to enter the work force.

Engage in professional development activities to remain current and improve knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to the machinist and teaching professions.

Work cooperatively with others to purchase required materials and equipment and manage and maintain the shared classroom space and lab equipment.

Work with marketing department in outreach efforts to recruit students and advertise the program.

Attend regularly scheduled meetings and participate in committee assignments.

Follow all established SLCC, School of Applied Technology and Technical Specialties policies and procedures.

Make and maintain industry contacts and work with the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) to assess needs of industry.

Collaborate with PAC members and other instructors to update and revise curriculum to meet industry needs.

Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Diesel Systems Technology or related field from an accredited
College or University.
2. Two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience in Diesel Systems Technology or a related field.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Eight (8) full-time years of paid Heavy Duty Diesel Systems experience.
2. Six (6) full-time years of paid diesel work experience and Associate of Applied (AAS) degree.
3. Four (4) full-time years of paid diesel work experience and Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. Degree must be in a related field.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College. The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
