The faculty member will teach Computer Science and Information Systems courses to community college students. Students may pursue a Certificate, Associate of Applied Science Degree or an Associate of Science Degree in CS and/or CIS as offered by the department. The candidate will participate in course curriculum and program development. The candidate will also serve on School and/or College committee assignments. Candidate must be willing to teach a percentage of their teaching load in the evening.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Develop, revise, distribute and adhere to current course outlines, laboratory projects, instructional materials and/or syllabi to keep in alignment with transfer institutions and collaborate with department on shared computer science curriculum.

Participate in curriculum development and maintaining curriculum (content and pedagogy) to meet current national and state standards (IEEE and ACM) and transfer institutions and textbook selection.

Attend regularly scheduled meetings, workshops, and accept committee assignments.

Advise students on program and/or course requirements.

Demonstrate and support professional commitment to Division, and College mission and values.

Maintain a supportive attitude toward work, students, colleagues and administration, and with people of diverse backgrounds.

Maintain regularly scheduled office/consultation hours.

Demonstrate a depth of understanding in the field of Computer Science.

Demonstrate the ability to teach Computer Science courses.

Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development and significant contributions to the Computer Sciences and Information Systems department.

Adhere to department guidelines and Division, School, and College policies as well as participate in committee work as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued

Work with Adjuncts to ensure quality and consistency of course offerings.

Provide and grade challenge exams as appropriate.

Administer student surveys in classes, as prescribed by Division procedures and discuss results with Associate Dean.

Attendance at New Faculty Orientation sessions is required.

Work with Computer Science Coordinator to communicate with their counterparts at USHE institutions relative to course content and pedagogy in PAC and Majors meetings, and as necessary to maintain relationship and seamless transfer for SLCC students.

Participate in department recruitment and retention efforts including advising potential and current CS students.

Work with CIS and CS faculty to facilitate student movement from basic computer literacy to an associates degree in Computer Science.

Accept other duties, as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidate must have either (a) or (b)
a. Master’s degree or higher
-Degree must be from an accredited institution and in computer information systems, business information systems, computer science or other computer-related field, or
b. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution plus two or more of the following with supporting documentation:
-Professional Certification in Computing (national, state, regional)
-Computer or technology related college-level course work beyond a Bachelor’s Degree, equivalent to at least 18 semester hours.
-Two or more years of recent full-time or full-time equivalent teaching experience in Computer Sciences, Computer Information System, or a closely related field at a regionally accredited higher education institution.
-Paid industry experience within the last five years in any Computer Programming, Information Systems, IT, or closely related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Highly successful background in teaching a variety of courses in computer science. 
Experience with curriculum development.
Experience with designing and implementing laboratory activities..
Evidence of successful participation in college and department activities.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College. The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

This appointment is for 12 months (9 month academic year + summer semester).
